How to flip pancakes

Happy almost Pancake Day! I thought I’d give you a heads up this year and share with you a little video on how to flip pancakes. I’ve been making pancakes since I was tiny – I used to make them every Saturday with my dad and sister. They’re one of the easiest things in the world to make and flipping them is SO much fun! And it’s not hard at all. I’ve done two videos – one showing how to make and flip them, and the other just showing how to flip them. The flipping only one is just below and full recipe one is at the bottom.

For 2 people, you need:

  • 125g plain flour
  • 1 egg
  • 300ml milk
  • pinch of salt
  • oil
  1. Heat a crepe pan (or a shallow frying pan) on a high heat with a dash of oil.
  2. Sift the flour into a large bowl and make a well in the middle. Add the egg into the well and whisk until it starts to come together.
  3. Add a third of the milk and beat carefully until incorporated. Add the next third and beat again. Add the pinch of salt and add the rest of the milk. Whisk until it’s smooth and no lumps remain.
  4. When the pan is hot, use a fish slice to spread it around so the pan is evenly coated. Lift the pan, then pour a small amount of batter into the pan and gently roll it round so it evenly coats the surface.
  5. Place back on the heat. After about 2 mins, give the pan a gentle shake and see if the pancake moves. You can peek at the under side using a spatula if you’re not sure. You want it to be starting to go golden.
  6. Once the pancake can move easily in the pan, flip it and cook on the other side for about a minute.
  7. Serve with lemon and sugar, or nutella, or fruit, or savoury stuff (leek and goats cheese works nicely).
  8. Repeat steps 4-6 until you have used up the batter. It keeps in the fridge for 2 days or so if you don’t use it all at once.

  1. ashleyfryer you don’t have a good dairy free egg free pancake recipe do you? Debating soy milk & “no egg” replacement powder.

  2. livvythepink I don’t I’m afraid, though I saw Mary Berry was talking about egg-free pancakes on the bbcgoodfood feed earlier! :)
