Given that I am being very well behaved with my food habits at the moment, I was delighted to see that Prezzo are doing a special January menu of low calorie meals – all under 600 calories! The healthy range is going until 4th Feb, so there’s still plenty of time to pay them a visit if any of the below take your fancy…
The healthy menu consists of:
- Chunky tomato and oregano soup (130 calories)
- Buffalo mozzarella flatbread (597 calories)
- Super detox salad (98 calories)
- Grilled vegetable flatbread (482 calories)
- Chicken Andria (310 calories)
- Choice of sorbets (129 calories)
I went to Prezzo in a party of four, and I was determined to have a nice meal out without scoffing too many calories. For starters, we shared some calamari (which was beautiful – really light and crispy) and the antipasti platter, which had cold meats, bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, fresh mozzarella, and
marinated olives. The platter was really lovely – though definitely designed to be shared between two instead of four! It was very fresh and tasty – the perfect start to our meal.
As I was keen to have something from the new January menu, I went for the grilled vegetable flatbread – and it was really rather scrummy. I was quite amazed that it was less than 600 calories, as it tasted like a normal pizza. It was drizzled in the most gorgeous pesto sauce, and the veggies were cooked perfectly. The presentation was absolutely gorgeous too. It came with a very fresh, tasty salad too. My dining partners all enjoyed their meals – one had a beef and chianti tortellini, one the calzone, and one had a ‘light’ pizza – a smaller pizza with a salad. The pasta was very slightly overcooked, but the flavours were good. The calzone was enormous (definitely not under 600 calories!!) and was rich and sumptuous – The London Lad said it could easily have been shared between two! The light pizza was also very good – though the toppings on the stagioni were a bit formulaic, which made my friend feel a bit like she had to eat it in sections.
The puddings were excellent – I had a very nice mini cheesecake (ok, a little bit naughty…!) and my friends had tiramisu (very nice, but slightly too much hot chocolate powder on the plate!), lemon sorbet (fluffy and zesty!) and a hazelnut bombe – an ball of ice cream covered in nuts and filled with meringue, which was delicious and one for the more adventurous diner!
The meal was enjoyed with a very nice bottle of chianti. The service was absolutely superb – we went to the branch on St Martin’s Lane in London, and our waitress was very friendly, smiley, and attentive. The evening was really lovely and I would say Prezzo is a great alternative to Pizza Express or Zizzi etc – it felt a bit fresher and a bit less ‘cookie cutter’. It has a bit more character, and the food we had was fresh, tasty, and thoughtfully prepared. I would definitely go back.
