Vanilla Extract

So simple, so delish! (photo by Rachel)

Vanilla extract is the easiest thing in the world to make – which means you no longer have to spend upwards of five pounds for a lilliputian supermarket bottle. Plus, it makes a great (and cheap!) gift.

You will need:

  • vanilla pods
  • cheap vodka (the good stuff can be saved for drinking!)
  1. Simply split the vanilla pods with a knife, length ways (I used two for a small bottle) and place in the sealable bottle.
  2. Fill with vodka.
  3. Leave in a cool, dark place for around two months – shake occasionally.

And that’s it – the quickest, simplest way to make baking more economical!
